Tony Hunter (left) is a professor at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies (CA, USA), where his lab aims to decipher the molecular basis of cell proliferation and cell cycle regulation, and the mechanisms underlying the conversion of normal cells into cancer cells. They investigate post-translational modifications of proteins, particularly phosphorylation – the covalent attachment of phosphate to a protein - with histidine phosphorylation a key area of interest.
