Infographic: How to prevent mycoplasma contamination


Cell cultures are at high risk of mycoplasma contamination due to the bacteria's lack of a rigid cell wall, its small size and its varying shape. Once a cell culture has been infected, mycoplasma can induce apoptosis, alter gene expression, inhibit protein synthesis and produce toxic metabolites. It's important to avoid mycoplasma contamination by ensuring good cell-culture conditions and standardizing cleaning procedures.
