Neuroscience
Eric Kandel, the recipient of the 2000 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for research on the physiological basis of memory storage in neurons, once described understanding the biological basis of learning, memory, behavior, perception and consciousness as the “epic challenge” of the biological sciences.
Once the cellular and molecular structure and communication of the central nervous system is elucidated, and brain functions are modeled and mapped in their entirety, the summit of the biological sciences – AKA neuroscience will be conquered. By then, there should also be successful therapies and preventions for all neurological diseases, including Alzheimer’s.
