Cancer stem cells can detach and survive enough to travel through systems to other areas of the body and these are responsible for metastasis. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) can send messages to distant tissues, priming them to receive the cancerous cells. This encourages the tissues to modify themselves to be more accommodating to the cancer cells so they grow together.
